5-21-18/5-24-18: We have reached the final week of school, this week we will be wrapping up our 4th grade year and preparing for 5th grade, This Thursday, May 24th, is Water Day, Parents are welcome to Volunteer for this event if they would like, our water day festivities begin at 9:45 AM at the Activity Center. There will be Eegee's available for $2 throughout the day. Please make sure your child brings water, it will be hot! Thanks for a great year and lets make our last week of 4th Grade Great!

We have our move up day Scheduled for Tuesday morning, where students will go to experience 5th grade. Overall this week will be a review from what we have learned over the school year, while working on the novels we are reading in class.
Important information:
We do not need to hold an extra day of school!
The State is allowing schools that can show they have enough minutes
in their annual schedule without making up days missed during the
walkout to count total minutes instead of total days.
We have extra minutes so we do not need to have school on Friday,
May 25. Our last day of school, as planned, is Thursday, May 24.

5-7-18/5-11-18: This week we are reviewing math from throughout the year to help prepare for 5th grade. We will be working on novel studies throughout the week, each student was given a book to read with students who share the same book in class. They will be reading these throughout the rest of the school year. Students will be breaking down the novel with each other and discussing what the story is about. We will also be touching on some poetry throughout the week, we discussed it a little bit earlier in the semester, we will be getting back to that. Overall this week will be time for us to review what we have learned and begin preparing for the jump to 5th grade, that will be taking place in a few short weeks. Also it is teacher appreciation week this week. Have a great week!

4-23-18/4-27-18: This week we are reviewing math and brushing up on areas we need to for 5th grade, we will not have school this Friday due to a spring holiday, thank you in advance.
4-9-18/4-13-18: We will be testing all week, this week. As well as Monday.
4-2-18/4-6-18: We are working on geometry this week in math. We will also be working on our cursive throughout the week as we have been all year long. We will also be reviewing and preparing for AZ Merit which begins next week. This will begin 4-9 and go through 4-16, please make sure students have a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep next week.
We Start Spring Break this Friday 3-16-18, there will be no school 3-19-18 to 3-23-18 and will return to school March 26th.

1/8/18 to 1/12/18: This week we will be getting back into the flow of things. Monday is a champion day, we will go over expectations of the classroom and the school, we will also be doing some activities with middle school. The rest of the week we will be reviewing key concepts for math getting ready for our next module. While we are learning how to cite a source properly for ELA, while writing current events for social studies. We have spelling words this week and those are as follows; Shook, proper, final, shock, calm, treatment, stripes, year, foolish, pain, news, dizzy, area, alphabet, eight, & rhythm. Due to being off last week, the pretest will be Thursday with those getting 100% not having to take it Friday, while allowing those who don't get a 100% the opportunity to see where they need to study a little more and try to get a 100% on Friday.There is a Skate Country Fundraiser Wednesday night from 6-8 PM, it is $4 admission and $3 skate rental.

Week 12-18-17 to 12-21-17: This week is a short week, we begin our Winter Break Friday, with our last day being this Thursday December 21. Our Native American Tribe Projects are due today, Monday the 18th. We will be finishing up a few things this week as we wrap up our second quarter, we are half way through the school year already. Monday we will be working with conductors and insulators and learning a little about how those work with a fun experiment. In the afternoon the students will be showing off their projects to different classes as we are setting up a museum type exhibit with the projects in the MPR, students will be able to share what they did along with information about their tribes.The rest of the week will be finishing up any work the students haven't completed, along with review on some key math areas that we will be working on after the break. We have our field trip this Thursday to Saguaro National Park, please make sure students wear closed toe shows, they may dress down, but make sure they are wearing some kind of pants as we will be outside for the majority of our field trip. Week 12-11-17 12-15-17: This week we are having our winter concert Monday Sahuaro High School at 6pm. We are beginning to work on factors and multiples in math, that will be our main focus before we finish up this final quarter. We are also working on finishing up our research papers that have been being completed in class, with the Social Studies project being due on Monday. This week we will also be finishing up "Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing" which we have been reading for most of the second quarter. We hope to start learning about conductors and insulators in science. Next week will be a short week as we begin Winter Break on Friday and we have our field trip Thursday. Please have students turn in their permission slips this week, if they haven't done so already. We are looking forward to a busy but fun week.
Week of 11-13-17 to 11-17-17: This week we are bench marking, this will take place Monday and Tuesday all day. Wednesday we will get back to our regular schedule. In math we will be working on Multiplying with place value units and partial products. For ELA, we will be continuing our novel study of, "Tales of a 4th Grade nothing". We will also be working on essay structure as we begin to put together our essays for our Native American Project for Social Studies, a handout with ideas was sent home last week. We will also have a rubric coming home this week. For the social studies project, students are to Come up with a creative way to represent the Arizona Native American Tribe they were assigned in class and have been researching. Use the details you found out about your tribe to help you choose the best project. You may have to search for a little more specific information once you have decided upon a project. Students have already received the tribe they are researching. The form sent home gave a list of ideas for projects that the students can use, they do not have to complete every one of these projects, they choose one or come up with one on their own and work on that. The project is due Monday, 12/18/17. Along with the part being completed at home, students will be constructing a five paragraph essay on the tribe they were assigned. If you have any questions about the project, please email me and I will be happy to answer those for you.

We will also be having a special flag ceremony this week to celebrate Veterans Day, in class we will be discussing what Veterans Day is and what significance it has on us. We will also be writing thank you letters for Veterans that are visiting our school to discuss what Veterans Day is and why it is important. We have also began reading "Tales of a 4th grade nothing" By Judy Bloom. We will also be discussing and beginning research on a Native American Tribe of Arizona given to them in Class. They will be getting more information throughout the week. Please remember there is no school this Friday, due to Veterans Day.
Week 10-23-17 to 10-27-17: This week we are working on completing module 2 of our math, we will begin module 3 this week as well. This will include area and perimeter and will be our focus for this week and so on for a little while. We Are studying the different Native American tribes of Arizona this week for our social studies. We will do our regular cursive practice in class and discuss writing for ELA, with science we should be discovering more about trees and how to correctly measure them, which will go along with our math lessons. The only homework this week is get onto study island for 20 minutes a day, at least 3 times this week. Also students need to read every night for about 20 minutes. Please note that our Pumpkin Patch is this Friday, the 27th, pumpkins will be five dollars, students are allowed to purchase one pumpkin each, please make sure they bring cash the day of or they will not be able to purchase a pumpkin. Also our costume parade will be n Halloween this year, students will be sent home with a flyer Tuesday with more information about the event. Students will need to make sure they are wearing their uniforms under their costumes. We have a Skate Country Fundraiser this Wednesday October 25th from 6-8 PM. It is four dollars to get in and three dollars for skate rentals. Have a great week.
